WELCOME BACK

Dear Parents and Students,

As we start the 2020-2021 school year, there are a few things that we would like to make you aware of.

· Because of CoVid-19, we are reopening virtually as a school on Monday, August 24, 2020, through distance learning.

· Your teachers will contact you to provide an orientation for your class. Please be on the lookout for the email from your teachers.

· We are ready to re-open for on-campus, in-person instruction as soon as Los Angeles County is off the CDPH Watchlist for 14 days consecutively.

· Registration is on-going for the high school for the week of August 17-19. Please follow the order of appearance on campus for that purpose.

· Financial aid is available to those who indicate a need. Please call the finance office to pick up the Worthy Student Fund application form to be considered.

· A date for a virtual town hall meeting for questions and answers will be announced soon. Please be on the lookout for that announcement.

Thank you for choosing Glendale Adventist Academy for your Christian education needs. We are here to serve you and be a haven of rest for your family as we all navigate the challenges of CoVid-19.

PLANS FOR RETURNING TO SCHOOL FOR THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR

July 23, 2020

Dear Parent/Guardian,

This email is an update on the last email you received. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

As we had communicated with you previously, we had planned and prepared for a return to in-person school with a hybrid-distance learning component starting Tuesday, August 18, 2020. By now we all know that on Friday, July 17, Governor Gavin Newsom gave guidance that altered that plan. The plan says that students in public and private schools located in counties on the state’s monitoring list due an increase in coronavirus infections will begin the school year with distance learning. Of the 33 counties that fall within those of the state’s monitoring list, Los Angeles County is in the red alert zone of the watchlist. We are therefore affected by the Governor’s mandate for distance learning. The Southern California Conference of SDA Office of Education in a Principals’ Council meeting on July 22, 2020, decided that “schools in the Southern California Conference will abide by the governor’s mandate and reopen the school year with distance learning until LA County is off the monitoring list for 14 consecutive days.”

Because of the Governor’s mandate and the need to safeguard the health of our students and faculty members, Glendale Adventist Academy will be starting the 2020/2021 school year with distance learning. We will not have an in-person school to start the school year. We are prepared for in-person school, but have to defer that option and go to the distance learning option.

As part of the strategy to get the best outcomes from our online (virtual) distance learning school experience, the Offices of Education of the Southern California Conference and Southeastern California have organized a teachers’ in-service training that focuses on Distance Learning and Effective Teaching Strategies scheduled for the first week of school upon returning. Instruction for students will start on Monday, August 24, 2020, even though the school year starts Tuesday, August 18, 2020. Therefore, mark Monday, August 24 as the first day of instruction for your students in the distance-learning format. We will have a parent orientation for distance learning during the week of August 10 to 14, 2020. We encourage you to avail yourself of the materials that will be sent to you for that purpose. The teachers for each grade level will communicate with the students and parents of the specific grade. Kindly be on the lookout for the information.

ANTICIPATION AND PREPARATION FOR IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION/SCHOOL

We all believe that the challenge with the COVID-19 pandemic will soon be behind us and we will be able to return to in-person instruction. As a school, we have invested a great deal of time, effort, and money into preparing for our in-person school reopening experience. These include the following:

The purchase and installation of hands-free faucets for the bathroom sinks.

The purchase and installation of hands-free soap dispensers.

The purchase and installation of hands-free sanitizer dispensers.

The purchase and installation of hands-free paper towel dispensers.

The purchase of HEPA filters for our air-conditioners.

The purchase of Owl video conferencing devices for virtual classrooms.

Our OSHA certified custodial services have done a detailed disinfecting of the school. They will do another school cleaning before the school year starts.

The purchase of the CDC recommended peroxide disinfectant.

Our goal is to make the school safe and as virus-free as humanly possible before the return of our students for in-person instruction and interaction at a later date. In addition to what we stated above, we reaffirm our commitment to getting the school ready for the safe return of our students as communicated to you on June 29, 2020.

A Message From The Principal

$23,700 Raised in Two Weeks - 38 Students Receive Financial Aid to Stay in School

Dear Friend,

When the clarion call went out two weeks ago to assist families that have been impacted by Covid19, you rose up to the occasion and gave. As we speak, 38 students who experienced one form of hardship or another have been able to receive some tuition assistance from the proceeds of the fundraiser. Thank you for your generous and sacrificial giving. One teacher donated the $1,200 stimulus package check to assist families in need. Other teachers and non-teaching staff members also gave generously. One parent donated two months of tuition payments in the amount of $1,200 to assist a needy student in their child’s classroom without knowing who in particular they were assisting. Another parent offered to give time to help the school take care of anything we needed to be done. Many of our alumni gave through the school website donation portal to support the cause. Friends of Glendale Adventist Academy came to our rescue. Everyone gave what they could to make it happen.

So where do we go from here? We are working on our plans for the next school year. Things will definitely be different from the way they are now. Physical distancing will continue and so will safe hygienic practices for the school as a whole. The wearing of face masks and temperature taking will become routine and class sizes will be reduced. We will keep you informed as plans develop.

Thank you for your consistent support for quality, Christ-centered education here at Glendale Adventist Academy where we put Christ in the hearts of our students. We appreciate you for partnering with us to make that an everyday reality.

Our God has promised to watch over us when we go through the fires of life or through stormy waters. Keep on trusting Him and keep on believing His word. We will survive these times and have reasons to celebrate on the other side. May God bless you richly.

Blessings.

Letter to Alumni, Friends, and Families

April 9, 2020

Dear Friends,

We are in the middle of the greatest battle yet known to contemporary times. Covid-19 is wreaking havoc on homes and whole countries as we speak, and Glendale Adventist Academy has not gone untouched, from the hospitalizations of family members to the deaths of some loved ones. However, we are grateful that our losses are contained. We have heard of some remarkable recoveries and outright healing of individuals who were hospitalized as a result of testing positive to Covid-19. For this, we are eternally grateful to God.

All told, the financial impact on the working families in our school community is leaving some wreckage in its trail. A number of parents have called to ask that their children be withdrawn from the school as a result of their inability to pay tuition along with other expenses. The school has offered to assist in the little ways we can by extending their payments over the summer months. This does not look like a solution for many who have lost their sources of income.

We are coming to you to appeal for financial assistance to support such families as they face these times. We are requesting that you come to our aid through your tax-deductible donations that will go directly to assist parents to meet their two remaining months of tuition payments. You may mail your checks to:

Glendale Adventist Academy
Attn: Treasurer
700 Kimlin Drive
Glendale CA 91206
or call: (818)-244-8761 8.00 AM to 4.00 PM Monday through Thursday & 8.00 to 2.00 PM Friday

You may also donate online through our website via PayPal and other payment methods at www.glendaleacademy.org

Look for the High School button and follow the prompts to the giving button.

Finally, we regret to announce that because of all the ongoing challenges with Covid-19, Alumni Homecoming and May Festival events are canceled. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and will announce new plans as we get more clarity.

Thank you for your unwavering support for Glendale Adventist Academy.

Blessings,

Graduation 2020 Postponed

April 3, 2020

Dear GAA Family,

We recognize the importance of various landmarks in the lives of our students, and the graduation ceremony marks a significant point of affirmation of hard work and diligence in the life of every student. For that reason, a staff meeting was held on Thursday, April 2, 2020, to discuss the kindergarten, eighth grade, and high school graduations of our school. It was decided that due to the school closure extension announced to go until the end of the school year, graduations have been postponed until sometime in the summer or fall depending on the turn of events with Covid-19.

Kindly accept our heartfelt appreciation for your feelings of loss at the fact that your child/children who are supposed to graduate are not able to march on the designated days previously published on the school calendar. God is with us and He has a beautiful plan up His sleeves that will bring us all joy and a cause to celebrate.

It is my firm belief that Glendale Adventist Academy will become greater after Covid-19 than before. Let us trust for the best and know that for each of us, the best is yet to come. Let us keep praying for those who are hospitalized or have tested positive. We at GAA are praying for all parents who are frontline workers and asking God to protect you as you seek to save the lives of others.

Have a wonderful and restful Sabbath. Enjoy the weekend with fun activities and remember to send me some pictures of your fun times. My email is iolaore@glendaleacademy.org

Blessings,

School Closure extended until the end of the School Year!

April 2, 2020

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I pray this letter finds you in good health and in safety. We salute all our parents who are frontline workers in the medical and related professions, as well as first responders who are faced with the dangers of Covid-19 on a daily basis. Our daily prayers are with you. For those parents/guardians who have been hospitalized as a result of Covid-19, we pray for God’s healing hands on you. We are also aware that many of us have been directly impacted socially and financially by the effects of school closures and stay home orders from the government due to Covid-19. We pray that God gives each of us the grace needed to carry on. Thank you for all the hard work you perform, trying to work from home and at the same time assist your children with staying connected with their distance learning program.

Our previous mandate for returning to school physically was May 5, 2020. This changed yesterday with an announcement by Governor Gavin Newsom of California, that schools will remain closed until the end of the school year. Instruction continues while schools remain closed for physical meetings. This means that the earliest opening date will be in the fall of 2020/2021. This has been confirmed by the Southern California Conference Office of Education. We are by this letter informing you that our distance learning program will continue uninterrupted until the end of the school year. We will continue to offer quality Christian education to our students on every school day for the remainder of the 2019/2020 school year. The last day of school is June 5, 2020.

There are many adjustments that are being made to make the current delivery system for the distance learning program run smoother after this first week. We appreciate the feedback we are getting from parents and students regarding the unique technical challenges that we are facing with the implementation of the distance learning program. Kindly keep the feedback coming.

On a lighter note, I would like to encourage you to take lots of pictures of your children at work (school at home) and share with me in my Google Drive via my email (iolaore@glendaleacademy.org). We plan to put together a collage of these pictures and produce videos for sharing once a week. Preserving positive memories of these days for the future is our legacy to our children. These are unique times that require unique responses. We also encourage you to spend more time playing with your children, having family worship, reading to them, going out on walks with them, or simply doing fun things that they love but time did not previously permit. May the God of peace Himself give you perfect peace today and always. Amen

Blessings.
